What Suma herb Is:

Here's a plant with virtually no folk history, medicinal or otherwise. Nearly 40 years ago, this clambering, nondescript member of the pigweed family (a close kin of amaranth) didn't even have a popular name. Since then, some supplement promoters have created a small body of folklore claiming that the Xingu tribe of Mato Grosso, Brazil, has used suma root as a ginsenglike tonic for at least 300 years. This supposed heritage somehow escaped even one mention in a highly trusted six-volume study of useful Brazilian plants, as well as diligent investigations by other researchers. Believe it if you wish, but chances are you're getting a pigweed in a poke.
