Skullcap herb extract, benefits, health, effects, plant, supplements, side effects Skullcap

What Skullcap herb Is:

Found in damp woods and swamplands in eastern North America, this plant was used in the late 1700s as a cure for rabies, hence one of its common names, mad dog weed. The claims were later discounted, and herbalists concentrated on the plant's value as a tranquilizer. Skullcap is so named because its two-lobed flowers, which range in color from purple and blue to pink and white, somewhat resemble a military helmet that early American settlers wore. The root of a related species, Baikal skullcap (S. baicalensis), is native to China and is used in traditional Chinese medicine to relieve colds, fever, high blood pressure, and insomnia, among other problems.

Skullcap is valued for its effects as a nervous system tonic.
