What Shepherd's purse herb Is:

The seedpods that emerge from the plant's tiny white flowers look somewhat like the leather satchels in which ancient shepherds carried food, hence the common name of this little mustard-family member. Shepherd's purse—with its ground-hugging, sometimes dandelion-like leaves and central stem or two that might grow up to a foot or so tall—is native to southern Europe and western Asia. But thanks to the thousands of seeds in those pods, it has become established all over the world, including North America.
