Sassafras herb extract, benefits, health, effects, plant, supplements, side effects Sassafras

What Sassafras herb Is:

Like sarsaparilla, this once-popular plant has fallen out of favor. The aromatic, sweet-tasting sassafras was regarded as a blood-purifying, all-purpose tonic for whatever ails you, including syphilis. The pleasing flavor made it a favored tea on both sides of the Atlantic. For a while, only tobacco topped this eastern North American native as an export to Europe. Sassafras livened up the taste of chewing gum, toothpastes, and beverages (notably root beer) until the 1960s, when research established that one primary chemical in its volatile oil, safrole, causes cancer. The FDA then banned sassafras's use in food unless the safrole is removed.
