What Coltsfoot herb Is:

If you're up on your Latin, you know that this perennial's generic first name means "cough." In fact, it once was called coughwort. Coltsfoot earned its current moniker because its broad, serrated leaves are shaped somewhat like a colt's foot. Interestingly, the leaves don't emerge until after the appearance of its yellow flowers, which look like dandelions. Originating in Europe, the plant now pops up in damp areas from Newfoundland south to New Jersey and Maryland and west to Minnesota.
