What makes Restless Leg Syndrome worse?

• There is some suggestion in the literature that some people may develop restless legs because of wildly swinging blood sugar. In some clinical settings, people suffering restless legs noted dramatic and significant improvement in their symptoms from eliminating sugar from their diets. Recommendation: Eliminate or sharply reduce your intake of sugars, including: table sugar, corn syrup, highfructose corn syrup, molasses, and all products made with these substances.

• In one study, all 62 patients who eliminated caffeine and other related compounds found in tea and chocolate noted improvement of their symptoms. Recommendation: Eliminate or sharply curtail your intake of caffeine from all sources, including coffee, tea, chocolate, and soft drinks. If you currently consume fairly high amounts of caffeine-containing foods and beverages, undertake your decaffeination slowly. We have described a regimen of gradual caffeine withdrawal under Breast Disease, Benign, that should help you decaffeinate yourself without the headache and sleepy stuporous feeling that may occur with abrupt caffeine withdrawal.
